In the News: Hilton & JetBlue

This week in news: Hilton creates a brand for millennials and JetBlue updates their cabins

Hilton is introducing Tru by Hilton, a hotel chain in the midscale category aimed to be a destination for millennials. They talk about smaller rooms and larger lobbies, creating common space for eating, drinking, gaming, and otherwise connecting with others. I personally love the idea, and the price tag doesn't sound awful either. My perception of millennials, however, is less of a social one and more of an isolated one hidden behind screens and technology. What do you think?

While JetBlue already dominates in-flight experience with their free snacks, drinks, and wi-fi, they're taking things another step further. They recently announced larger seatback screens with more channels of DirecTV and the ability to develop and download custom apps, more outlets in airports and onboard, and a more ergonomic environment with better more comfortable seats and more natural lighting. I already look to JetBlue as a leader of the inflight experience from a soft skills perspective, and now it sounds like their hardware will compete more readily with Virgin America, the widely respected leader in flight environments. Are you as excited as I am?
