Last Sunday, December 20th, I had the pleasure of attending the 3rd Annual All-You-Can-Eat Crab Feast at the SOMA StrEat Food Park. Despite the horridly rainy and cold weather, my friend and I got our butts down to SOMA and boy, am I glad we did!
The feast was from 12-3pm and we were shocked to see a line when we arrived at 11:45am. Luckily, checking in was a smooth process and the line moved quickly. We each received a plate piled high with garlic noodles, kale salad, and most importantly, CRAB. Crab legs, to be clear, not whole crabs, and crabs sourced from Alaska and Canada because well, California. We grabbed our plates and found two open seats at a table "inside", where we found buckets for shells and many happy people tearing through their crab.
The garlic noodles were plain and a bit soggy, but the kale salad was a nice, light side and had little bits of craisins and pepitas in it. The crab was obviously the star of the show - it was served cold and pre-cracked so no crackers were necessary to enjoy all the meaty goodness. There was also a chipotle style sauce on the side that was a spicy, flavorful alternative to butter, though completely unnecessary. The crab was great on its own! The legs were full of meat and we quickly devoured our first serving before going back for more.
On the second round, the servers were nice enough to skip the sides and just fill up the plate with crab. By going right to the end of the line, we were able to get more crab legs without waiting, though if we wanted more sides, we were able to stand in the line to get a new, full plate.
I believe the tickets for the event were $40 plus fees, and I have to say, this was MORE THAN worth it. Despite the horrible weather, we enjoyed the event and we definitely ate our money's worth. I'm looking forward to 4th Annual Crab Feast next year!
