First Use is the initial setup process for webOS devices.  The First Use flow allowed users to sign into their webOS account to restore information to their device. Not only could they restore their information, but they could choose any device they owned to restore from, unlike many restore flows today that default to a single device. We redesigned the First Use flow before the release of the Touchpad. Our goals were to streamline the setup process, improve users’ understanding of why they create a webOS account, and make restoring their information faster and easier.

Role: Lead interaction designer

Process: Redesigned the flow through First Use including sign-in, backup, and wi-fi connection

Key Design Decisions: Get the user up and running as quickly and easily as possible

Deliverables: Wireframes, documentation, behavioral specs, implementation support

Fun Fact: A webOS account is used to save and restore the user's vital information for each of their devices, such as apps they've downloaded, internet history & bookmarks, SMS history, and more!
